FYI…
I don’t know if you guys have encountered this but trust me, this is some good information worth having/knowing. I have been dealing with this at a few clients over the past few months and it is a nasty little bugger. As we all know, Jesper Johansson is an industry renowned security guru and this is an awesome write-up. This was too good not to share/archive.
I hope it helps those who are dealing with this threat to understand the real impact and issues it presents. We should share this with others so they too can learn from it. The bad guys are getting craftier at the game.
Please share the info.
Thank you,

Flooded out “again”, 2 times in 2 months, what more can one ask for
So, that lil thunderstorm that hit NY yesterday took me by surprise in a serious way. I knew we were going to have some rain but not that much and not so heavy. The thunders that “dropped” and was running on the ground in Arverne/Far Rockaway was just something for memory. After the last flood out 2 months ago I raised everything (almost) off the ground and started keeping them off the ground. The last flood had 6 systems trying to flow, laptops testing how much water it can take in before frying its circuit and a few peripherals just not working with the program.
I had to be at work but when I saw how overcast it was I went back in and raised a few things off the ground. The bad thing was, we just moved “all” our stuff from storage and was sorting out everything in the office so things were pretty laid out in a sorted manner, well, the water came in and just took that sorting away. By 12 noon Dahlia called me screaming, the office is flooded.
Huh, what do you mean by “flooded” I asked.
She said flooded. Water everywhere.
How I asked.
Through the walls she said.
The what?
Needless to say I just grabbed my stuff and headed home. When I got there it was too much to be mad about, we just saved what we could and dumped everything else. It was just too much. Water was coming through the walls from the outside as it couldn’t withstand the amount of water that was there so it just came in. Being flooded out 2 times in 2 months isn’t a fun thing. Now we don’t have to worry much about sorting out stuff right :-). What got wet got dumped. It was crazy. Fortunately the system losses were less this time so that’s a good sign right :-).
Anyway, this helped to clear up for my technology showcase on Sunday as now we have most of the work done for us in getting everything sorted out.
What can I say but thank God, it could have been worse as there are a few electrical power strips on the floor which the water narrowly ran around and didn’t touch. If it did, we’d be having a different discussion.
Until the next flooding, stay secure.
